FAME AND THE NEW DEFINITION OF STATUS

FOR ALMOST TWO DECADES, THE KARDASHIAN-JENNER FAMILY BUILT AN EMPIRE AROUND ONE POWERFUL IDEA:

IMAGE IS CURRENCY.

THE EXAGGERATED HOURGLASS SILHOUETTE. THE TINY WAIST. THE SCULPTED FACE. THE BODYCON DRESS. THE CONTOURING. THE NUDE PALETTE. THE PERFECTLY CONTROLLED INSTAGRAM IMAGE. THE KARDASHIAN BODY WAS NOT SIMPLY A BODY. IT BECAME A FASHION AND BEAUTY LANGUAGE. BUT TODAY, SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE CHANGING.

KENDALL JENNER LINKED WITH JACOB ELORDI.

KIM KARDASHIAN CONNECTED WITH LEWIS HAMILTON.

KYLIE JENNER WITH TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET.

THREE VERY DIFFERENT MEN, BUT ALL CARRYING SOMETHING IMPORTANT: ESTABLISHED CAREERS, GLOBAL RECOGNITION AND IDENTITIES COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT FROM THE KARDASHIAN MACHINE.

SO HAVE THE KARDASHIANS RAISED THEIR STANDARDS?

PERHAPS NOT MORALLY.

BUT AESTHETICALLY AND SOCIALLY, THEIR DEFINITION OF STATUS APPEARS TO BE EVOLVING.

FROM BODYCON TO CULTURAL CAPITAL

THE KARDASHIAN ERA CHANGED FASHION.

THINK BACK TO ITS STRONGEST CODES:

SKIN-TIGHT DRESSES.

CORSETED WAISTS.

NUDE TONES.

LATEX.

CUT-OUTS.

LEGGINGS.

BODY SCULPTING.

EXTREMELY HIGH HEELS.

HEAVY GLAMOUR.

THE CLOTHES WERE DESIGNED TO EMPHASISE THE BODY. EVERYTHING POINTED BACK TO THE SILHOUETTE. KIM KARDASHIAN BECAME ONE OF THE DEFINING SYMBOLS OF THE HYPER-CURVACEOUS FEMALE FIGURE, WHILE KYLIE TRANSFORMED BEAUTY INTO AN ENTIRE COMMERCIAL IDENTITY.

THE MESSAGE WAS SIMPLE:

YOUR BODY IS YOUR STATEMENT.

BUT FASHION HAS CHANGED. AND INTERESTINGLY, SO HAVE THEY. TODAY WE SEE MUCH MORE RESTRAINT.

MORE TAILORING.

MORE MINIMALISM.

MORE VINTAGE REFERENCES.

MORE ARCHIVAL FASHION.

MORE QUIET LUXURY.

MORE EMPHASIS ON THE QUALITY AND CULTURAL RELEVANCE OF WHAT IS BEING WORN RATHER THAN SIMPLY HOW MUCH BODY IS BEING SHOWN.

KYLIE AND TIMOTHÉE: FROM INSTAGRAM GLAMOUR TO AWARDS-SEASON FASHION

KYLIE JENNER’S RELATIONSHIP WITH TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET CREATED AN UNUSUAL CULTURAL CROSSOVER.

KYLIE CAME FROM THE WORLD OF BEAUTY EMPIRES, SOCIAL MEDIA, BODY-CONSCIOUS DRESSING AND REALITY TELEVISION.

TIMOTHÉE BELONGS TO CINEMA, AWARDS SEASON AND THE FASHION-INTELLECTUAL WORLD OF HOLLYWOOD. AND KYLIE’S IMAGE BEGAN SHIFTING ACCORDINGLY. INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY SEEING HER IN OVERTLY SEXY INSTAGRAM LOOKS, WE INCREASINGLY SEE HER IN MORE SOPHISTICATED EVENINGWEAR, CLEANER SILHOUETTES, COUTURE-INSPIRED GOWNS AND RESTRAINED STYLING. THE CLOTHES REMAIN GLAMOROUS. BUT THEY FEEL LESS LIKE “LOOK AT MY BODY” AND MORE LIKE:

“I BELONG ON THIS RED CARPET.”

THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT FASHION SHIFT.

KENDALL JENNER: THE QUIET-LUXURY KARDASHIAN

KENDALL HAS ALWAYS OCCUPIED A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FASHION WORLD FROM HER SISTERS.

AS A MODEL, SHE HAS HAD DIRECT ACCESS TO HIGH FASHION, RUNWAY CULTURE AND DESIGNERS. HER RECENT IMAGE IS EVEN MORE RESTRAINED.

SIMPLE TROUSERS.

MINIMAL DRESSES.

THE ROW.

BOTTEGA VENETA.

VINTAGE PIECES.

CLEAN TAILORING.

NEUTRAL COLOURS.

PERFECTLY CUT BASICS.

IT IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LANGUAGE FROM THE HYPER-GLAMOROUS KARDASHIAN LOOK OF TEN YEARS AGO. NOTHING NEEDS TO SCREAM. THE QUALITY OF THE GARMENT DOES THE WORK.

THE AESTHETIC SAYS:

I DON’T NEED A LOGO TO PROVE STATUS. AND CULTURALLY, THAT IS EXACTLY WHERE LUXURY FASHION HAS BEEN MOVING.

KIM kARDASHIAN: FROM BODY SPECTACLE TO FASHION AUTHORITY

KIM’S TRANSFORMATION MAY BE THE MOST INTERESTING OF ALL. HER EARLY FASHION IDENTITY WAS ALMOST ENTIRELY BASED ON CURVES.

BANDAGE DRESSES, PLUNGING NECKLINES, TIGHT SKIRTS AND DRAMATIC SILHOUETTES DOMINATED HER IMAGE.

THEN CAME THE BALMAIN ERA.

THEN KANYE WEST’S INFLUENCE AND THE YEEZY MINIMALISM PERIOD.

THEN BALENCIAGA.

THEN ARCHIVAL FASHION.

THEN MARILYN MONROE.

THEN DOLCE & GABBANA.

KIM GRADUALLY MOVED FROM BEING SOMEBODY WHO WORE FASHION TO SOMEBODY ACTIVELY TRYING TO POSITION HERSELF INSIDE FASHION HISTORY.

THAT IS AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION.

SHE NO LONGER SIMPLY WANTS THE HOTTEST DRESS. SHE WANTS THE REFERENCE. THE ARCHIVE. THE DESIGNER RELATIONSHIP. THE FASHION CREDIBILITY.

AND A FIGURE LIKE LEWIS HAMILTON FITS PERFECTLY INTO THAT EVOLUTION.

HAMILTON HIMSELF HAS BECOME DEEPLY ASSOCIATED WITH FASHION, LUXURY HOUSES, FRONT ROWS AND MAJOR GLOBAL EVENTS.

THIS ISN’T SIMPLY CELEBRITY DATING CELEBRITY.

VISUALLY, IT READS AS:

FASHION POWER MEETS SPORTING POWER.

HAVE THEIR STANDARDS CHANGED?

IT WOULD BE SIMPLISTIC TO SAY THAT HOLLYWOOD ACTORS OR FORMULA ONE DRIVERS ARE SOMEHOW “BETTER” THAN RAPPERS, MUSICIANS OR BASKETBALL PLAYERS.

PROFESSION DOES NOT EQUAL MORALITY.

WHAT HAS CHANGED IS THE TYPE OF CULTURAL STATUS BEING PROJECTED.

THE EARLIER KARDASHIAN WORLD WAS CLOSELY CONNECTED WITH HIP-HOP CULTURE, NIGHTLIFE, SPORTS, OVERT SEXUALITY AND CONSPICUOUS CELEBRITY.

THE NEWER IMAGE FEELS MORE CONNECTED TO:

PRESTIGE CINEMA.

FASHION HOUSES.

AWARDS CULTURE.

GLOBAL LUXURY.

ARCHIVAL FASHION.

PRIVATE TRAVEL.

ESTABLISHED INSTITUTIONS.

DISCREET WEALTH.

THAT IS NOT NECESSARILY A MORAL UPGRADE.

IT IS A SOCIAL AND AESTHETIC REPOSITIONING.

FASHION ALWAYS REVEALS THE SHIFT FIRST

FASHION USUALLY TELLS US WHERE CULTURE IS MOVING BEFORE ANYONE SAYS IT ALOUD.

THE KARDASHIAN AESTHETIC ONCE REPRESENTED EXCESS.

MORE CURVES.

MORE MAKEUP.

MORE EXPOSURE.

MORE LOGOS.

MORE ATTENTION.

TODAY LUXURY INCREASINGLY MEANS SOMETHING DIFFERENT:

CRAFT.

TAILORING.

HERITAGE.

KNOWLEDGE.

DISCRETION.

INDIVIDUALITY.

CONFIDENCE.

AND PERHAPS THEIR ROMANTIC CHOICES ARE BEGINNING TO REFLECT EXACTLY THE SAME TRANSFORMATION.

THE FAMILY THAT ONCE BUILT AN EMPIRE AROUND BEING LOOKED AT MAY NOW BE ENTERING A PHASE WHERE BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLYMATTERS MORE.

FOR YEARS THE MESSAGE WAS:

LOOK AT OUR BODIES.

TODAY IT FEELS CLOSER TO:

LOOK AT OUR TASTE.

LOOK AT OUR WORLD.

LOOK WHERE WE BELONG.

AND PERHAPS THAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING KARDASHIAN REBRAND OF ALL.

Zendaya ….The Modern icon we need https://italianfashionstudio.com/zendaya-the-modern-icon-we-need/ https://italianfashionstudio.com/zendaya-the-modern-icon-we-need/#respond Fri, 31 Jul 2026 16:28:10 +0000 https://italianfashionstudio.com/?p=3577 The post Zendaya ….The Modern icon we need appeared first on Italian Fashion Studio.

In an era when celebrity is often measured by constant exposure, Zendaya has built her influence through something far more powerful: discernment. She appears when there is something worth communicating, chooses clothes that become part of the story, and protects the parts of her life that do not belong to the public.

That balance—between extraordinary visibility and genuine privacy—is what makes her a truly modern icon.

Fashion as intelligence, not decoration

Zendaya’s talent for fashion goes far beyond simply looking beautiful in expensive clothes. Together with her longtime stylist and creative collaborator Law Roach, she has transformed the red carpet into a form of visual storytelling. Their celebrated approach to “method dressing” connects each outfit to the atmosphere, character or symbolism of the film she is promoting. What could have been a promotional obligation becomes an extension of the cinematic world.

But Law Roach’s contribution does not diminish Zendaya’s own instinct. A stylist can propose a dress, but the person wearing it must understand its language. Zendaya knows how to inhabit clothing. She understands posture, proportion, gesture and timing. She can wear an architectural couture creation without appearing overwhelmed by it, then appear days later in something restrained and seemingly effortless.

This is perhaps her greatest fashion gift: she does not merely wear a look; she completes it.

Her beauty operates in the same way. It rarely feels separated from her personality or transformed into a mask. Whether she appears with sculpted red-carpet glamour or embraces her natural hair and softer styling, she retains something recognisable and unforced. Her beauty does not ask us to believe in perfection. It communicates confidence, curiosity and an unusual freedom to transform without losing herself.

A grounded woman inside an extraordinary career

Zendaya represents a newer and healthier idea of fame. She can command the world’s most important carpets, work with major directors and fashion houses, and still appear grounded, warm and almost unaffected by the machinery surrounding her.

Her private wedding to Tom Holland expressed this perfectly. Rather than turning marriage into another publicity campaign, the couple succeeded in keeping the ceremony away from cameras and commercial spectacle. The marriage was disclosed only gradually, first through comments from Law Roach and later through Holland’s own references to Zendaya as his wife. Even after public confirmation, the couple maintained their boundary: the event belonged to them, not to an audience.

In a culture where celebrity weddings can become sponsored global productions, their choice felt almost radical. Privacy became the ultimate luxury—not secrecy created for publicity, but intimacy protected because it mattered.

Tom Holland and the appeal of the good boy next door

Tom Holland complements Zendaya’s image because he represents a similarly contemporary masculinity. He is internationally famous, yet retains the approachable quality of the good boy next door: humorous, affectionate, hardworking and apparently comfortable beside a woman whose presence can dominate any room.

Many people first remember him through Billy Elliot the Musical, where he performed in London’s West End while still a child. The story follows a boy who discovers ballet against the severe background of the 1984–85 miners’ strike in County Durham, in northern England—not Ireland. Holland was not himself the impoverished son of a coal miner, but his early performance connected him forever with that image: a young boy dancing with determination while an entire working-class community struggled around him. He was discovered through dance and spent years training before taking on the title role.

That history still contributes to his appeal. Before the superhero body and Hollywood fame, there was discipline, movement and vulnerability. His masculinity was never built only around physical power; it also emerged through dance, emotional expression and perseverance.

Together, Zendaya and Holland offer a version of the celebrity couple that feels remarkably free of theatrical dominance. Neither appears to reduce their own identity to support the other. Their relationship suggests companionship rather than performance.

Spider-Man: Growing Up Together in Public

The recent promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day reveals another quality that makes Zendaya so compelling: she knows how to command attention without refusing to share it.

Zendaya and Tom Holland have grown up together through the Spider-Man films. What began in 2017 as the natural chemistry between two very young actors has gradually developed into a creative partnership, a private love story and, eventually, a marriage. During the promotion of the new film, they no longer appeared simply as Peter Parker and MJ, or even as a celebrity couple carefully presented for the cameras. They seemed like two people who genuinely understand the pressures, responsibilities and occasional absurdities of each other’s lives.

Zendaya has described returning to the Spider-Man set as a kind of homecoming: an opportunity to work beside her best friend and the person she loves, with even their dogs becoming part of the family atmosphere surrounding the production. That description is revealing. Their relationship does not appear to exist separately from their professional lives, but neither is it exploited as part of the film’s marketing. They support one another without turning every appearance into a public performance of romance.

During the international press tour, from Rome and Berlin to Paris, Mexico City, Los Angeles and London, their public chemistry remained affectionate but understated. There were shared smiles, private jokes, small gestures and carefully coordinated outfits, but never the sense that they were trying to manufacture a dramatic celebrity moment. At the London premiere on July 29, Holland’s face visibly brightened when Zendaya arrived to the cheers of the crowd. His reaction communicated pride rather than competition—the response of a husband who seems genuinely delighted by his wife’s brilliance.

This is particularly significant because Zendaya could easily dominate every event. Her fashion power, beauty and ability to create a memorable entrance are almost unmatched. Yet at the Spider-Man presentations she appears conscious that Holland is carrying the central character and the enormous responsibility attached to him. She does not make herself smaller, but she allows the spotlight to move naturally between them. It is a subtle form of emotional intelligence: knowing when to create the image and when to support the person standing beside you.

Their clothing also creates a visual conversation. At one appearance, Holland’s black Prada tailoring was enlivened by a Spider-Man-red shirt, while Zendaya’s black minidress was completed by shoes with red soles. Rather than wearing obvious matching outfits, they connected themselves through discreet details—dressing as individuals while still appearing unmistakably united.

Zendaya continued her method-dressing tradition throughout the tour, but with greater freedom and humour than before. In Paris, she transformed a vintage Spider-Man T-shirt—reportedly sourced for less than $35—into a playful minidress. In London, she wore a vintage 1997 John Galliano gown with a jewelled web across the back. For the Los Angeles premiere, she chose a sculptural Ashi Studio gown whose details suggested the anatomy of a spider without becoming a literal costume. These looks demonstrated that intelligent fashion is not determined only by price or exclusivity. A second-hand T-shirt can communicate an idea just as effectively as couture when it is chosen with imagination.

The Spider-Man tour therefore represents more than another sequence of successful red-carpet appearances. It shows Zendaya’s ability to combine fashion, storytelling, professional loyalty and personal affection. She can create a major visual moment while remaining part of a partnership. Beside her, Holland does not look threatened by her power; he appears proud of it. Beside him, Zendaya does not appear to be performing the role of the supportive wife; she looks like an equal who understands exactly when to shine and when to let someone she loves have his own moment.

Perhaps this is one reason audiences respond so warmly to them. Their story contains the fantasy of two young actors who met while making a superhero film and grew into adulthood together, but their behaviour remains surprisingly ordinary. They tease each other, support each other’s work, bring their dogs to the set and appear happiest in the small moments between the official photographs.

They represent a contemporary romantic ideal—not a prince and princess placed on a distant pedestal, but two talented people who seem to have remained friends while becoming global stars. Their Spider-Man appearances allow the public a glimpse of that bond, while never giving us the impression that we are entitled to see all of it.

One misstep on an otherwise brilliant journey

Even the most convincing modern icon should not be protected from criticism.

For the London premiere of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Zendaya wore a spectacular Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown designed by Daniel Roseberry. The dress featured a white porcelain-effect moulded bustier, mirrored fringe and an illuminated skirt—a technically extraordinary creation that matched the mythic scale of the film.

However, the gown had appeared on the runway in Paris and was then flown to London by private jet on the day of the premiere so Zendaya could wear it immediately. The story was presented as another dramatic fashion “odyssey,” but it also exposed one of the contradictions at the centre of contemporary luxury: environmental responsibility is celebrated in public discourse, while enormous resources may be consumed to secure a single red-carpet moment.

It would be unfair to attribute the entire decision personally to Zendaya. A premiere look involves a network of stylists, fashion houses, publicists, schedules and logistical teams. Yet an icon’s cultural influence also creates responsibility. The dress was magnificent, but bringing it from Paris to London on a private aircraft—between two cities connected by frequent trains—was an unnecessary excess.

It was not a fashion mistake. Visually, the choice was exceptional. It was a values mistake: a moment when the desire to produce an unforgettable image outweighed the more modern obligation to consider how that image was made possible.

The icon we need now

Zendaya’s significance lies precisely in the fact that she does not feel like an untouchable monument. She is talented, strategic and visually extraordinary, but she also appears human. She can make excellent choices and still occasionally participate in a questionable one.

A modern icon should not be someone who never makes a mistake. She should be someone capable of recognising the changing meaning of influence.

Zendaya represents elegance without coldness, ambition without desperation, beauty without obvious artificiality and romance without public exhibition. She understands that clothing can tell stories, while her marriage demonstrates that not every story must be shared.

Perhaps that is why she fascinates us. She offers the fantasy of couture while protecting the reality of her life. She belongs to Hollywood, but she does not appear to have surrendered herself completely to it.

And apart from one dress that travelled far more extravagantly than necessary, her journey remains one of the most intelligent, graceful and compelling in contemporary culture.

Starting a fashion brand in 2026 is easier than ever. Building a fashion brand that actually survives, however, requires much more than a beautiful logo, an Instagram account, and a few attractive designs. The fashion market has changed.

Customers are more selective, production costs matter, trends move faster, and new brands compete for attention every day. If you want to start a clothing brand in 2026, you need to think like both a designer and a business owner. Here is where to start.

1. Define Your Fashion Brand Concept

Before designing your first collection, ask one important question: Why should someone buy from your brand? “Women’s clothing” is not a brand concept. “Luxury fashion” is not enough either. Your brand needs a clear direction. Define your target customer, price level, lifestyle, product category, aesthetic, and market position.Instead of designing for everyone, design for a specific customer.

The clearer your brand concept is, the easier it becomes to make decisions about design, fabrics, prices, photography, and marketing.

2. Research the Market Before You Design

One of the biggest mistakes new fashion entrepreneurs make is designing an entire collection before understanding the market.

Study your competitors. What are they selling? What are their prices? Which products are repeatedly restocked? How do customers respond to their collections? Market research does not mean copying another brand. It means understanding where your brand can compete. In 2026, data should be part of the design process. Social media, online stores, customer reviews, and search trends can give you valuable information before you invest in production.

3. Build a Strong Mood Board

A professional mood board is not a collage of beautiful Pinterest images. It is a visual strategy for your collection. Your mood board should communicate the atmosphere, colours, textures, shapes, materials, and lifestyle of the collection.

Every design decision should connect to the original concept. A strong mood board helps you avoid one of the most common problems in new collections: designing beautiful individual garments that do not look like they belong to the same brand.

4. Plan the Collection Before Creating Samples

Do not start sampling random designs. First, build a collection plan. Decide how many styles you need and how the products work together. Think about tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, statement pieces, and commercial pieces. You also need to consider colour options and sizes. This is where an assortment plan and SKU strategy become essential.

A collection is not simply a group of designs.

It is a product system.

5. Understand Pattern Making and Fit

You do not necessarily need to become a professional pattern maker to own a fashion brand. But you must understand the importance of patterns and fit. A beautiful sketch cannot fix a bad pattern. Fit problems lead to alterations, customer complaints, returns, and wasted production. Invest time in developing and testing your basic patterns. Create clear size specifications and test garments on real bodies whenever possible. Fit is part of your brand identity. Customers may forget your Instagram post.

They will remember how your clothes made them feel.

6. Create Professional Samples

Your first sample is rarely your final product. Sampling is a development process. The garment should be checked for fit, construction, proportions, fabric behaviour, finishing, and production feasibility. Document every correction. Do not rely on verbal instructions alone. A professional fashion brand needs technical information, measurements, and clear production notes. This is where tech packs and specification sheets become extremely important.

8. Calculate Your Costs Before Production

Never decide your retail price after producing the collection. Calculate your costs first. Include fabric, trims, patterns, samples, production, labels, packaging, transportation, photography, website costs, marketing, and taxes where applicable. Then calculate your margin. Many new fashion brands fail because they confuse revenue with profit. Selling a dress for 3,000 does not mean you made 3,000.

Know your numbers before you place a production order.

9. Start With Smart Production Quantities

More stock does not automatically mean more success. For a new brand, overproduction can destroy cash flow. Start strategically. Use small production runs, controlled quantities, pre-orders, or limited drops when appropriate for your business model. Watch what customers actually buy. Your first collection should also give you information. Which colour sells? Which size moves fastest? Which product gets attention but no sales?

Use this information to plan your next production.

10. Build Your Online Presence Before Launch

Do not wait until the collection is ready to start marketing. Build your audience during the development process. Show the inspiration, fabrics, sketches, fittings, samples, and behind-the-scenes moments. Customers enjoy seeing how a product is created. By the time you launch, your audience should already understand the story of your brand.

Your website, social media, product photography, and brand communication should all speak the same visual language.

11. Use AI as a Tool, Not as Your Brand Identity

Artificial intelligence is changing fashion. In 2026, fashion entrepreneurs can use AI for research, content planning, visual concepts, product descriptions, customer analysis, and workflow support. But AI cannot replace a clear creative direction. If every brand uses the same tools in the same way, everything begins to look the same. Use technology to work faster.

Use your vision to remain different.

12. Launch, Analyse and Improve

Your first launch is not the final definition of your brand. It is the beginning of the learning process. Analyse sales, website behaviour, customer questions, returns, sizing issues, and product performance. Identify your best sellers. Listen to your customers without losing your brand identity. Successful fashion brands evolve.

They do not randomly change direction every month.

Summing up

Starting a fashion brand in 2026 requires creativity, but creativity alone is not enough. You need strategy, product knowledge, production planning, costing, and a clear understanding of your customer. Do not rush to produce a large collection simply because you are excited to launch. Build the concept. Plan the collection. Develop the product. Understand the numbers.

Then launch.
